Established in 2011 by Chairman Michelle Ong, First Initiative Foundation (FIF) engages in a variety of projects that are beneficial to the Hong Kong community. FIF supports and organizes social and charitable initiatives to benefit the arts, education, community welfare and promotion of Hong Kong’s unique culture on the world stage.
FIF is committed to the value of giving, social co-operation and uplifting the best of Hong Kong. FIF’s current initiatives include: music scholarships for outstanding Hong Kong students both locally and abroad, mentorship-based projects for Hong Kong students of all ages and educational outreach programmes. The foundation has established scholarship programmes with the Manhattan School of Music in New York and renowned pianist Lang Lang. In addition to our music scholarships, FIF sponsors masterclasses and performances with internationally iconic artists and the support of socially positive youth groups in Hong Kong.
FIF’s efforts in supporting cultural development and musical performances have been recognized worldwide with Ong being included in Forbes’ annual Heroes of Philanthropy list in 2017.
Dear Friends of FIF,
I am happy to share with you that FIF is having another positive and productive year to benefit the Hong Kong community, both locally and on the international stage.
It was an honour to have so many patrons and donors supporting our 2017 major multi-level initiative ‘World in Tune’, which included a gala fundraising event, public recital and masterclass. I was very touched to see familiar and new faces. We also had the remarkable support of our Artists in Support Renee Fleming, Eason Chan and Lang Lang for our initiative. We are all looking forward to their upcoming CD release ‘I Want…’ to benefit FIF.
I must also mention our wonderful and widening Circle of Friends and Artists in Support. We are fortunate that international stars and leaders in creative fields have joined FIF. We will continue to work together so that Hong Kong can flourish.
A memorable moment of 2017 is the acknowledgement of FIF in Forbes’ Magazine in July. We were acknowledged as a “Hero of Philanthropy” for our charitable efforts. Of course, this would not have been possible without the collaborative efforts and generosity of our supporters. Once again, to our members and advisors, to our artists and educators in support, and our growing circle of friends: thank you for being a part of FIF’s mission to benefit Hong Kong.
I look forward to many exciting upcoming projects and initiatives, always continuing to focus on taking the first initiative for good.
